No, ITP itself doesn't develop spleenomegally. It's a very important diferentiating point from other reasons of thrombocytopenia.
Reason behind spleenectomy of rx unresponed case: Immune destruction of platelets ( platelets- antibody complex is engulfed by macrophage in the spleen) is happened in spleen. So if patient doesn't have spleen, there will be no place to platelets destruction! Hope it helps. |
