#1
A 5-year old girl with a lumbar myelomeningocele is brought to the office by her mother for a periodic health evaluation. The girl has little motor function and no sensation below the waist. She has neurogenic bladder requiring intermittent catherization, and also has daily suppositories to aid in bowel movement. She does not have hdydrocephalus but can walk only with the aid of braces and crutches. "I am pleased with how well she is doing", says her mother, "but I am so worried about what might happen to her later on." Which of the following is the most likely late complication in this patient?

Answer: End-stage Renal Disease

Can someone explain why?
