Eight hundred motor vehicle collisions occured over 2 years in a city with a population of 600,000; 600 of these accidents were alcohol-related. Durin the same period, there were 400 fatalities due to motor vehicle collisions, of which 75% were alcohol related. which of the following best represents the 1-year incidence of alchol-related motor vehicle fatalities in this community?


A) 150 per 600,000
B) 300 per 600,000
c) 450 per 600,000
D) 600 per 600,000
E) unable to determine from availabel information.

A... okay so here is how i got my answer i might be wrong
for a second forget the population that number is distraction
800 MVA in 2 years
600 MVA alcohol associated in 2 years
400 of the total 800 MVA died [ fatalities ]
of those 400, 300 were alcohol related deaths [75 %]
so for 1 year alcohol related MVA = 150


math =
600/ 800 = 75% of MVA were alcohol related
400 X 0.75 [decimal of 75%] = 300 so therefore 300 MVA were alcohol related fatalies

now all of this is 2 year based****
divide 300 by 2 [ for 1 year ] = 150...
so 150 per 600,000 MVA associated with Alcohol fatalies??

correct me if im wrong.

i did it the same way but according to the checklist of offline nbme its wrong... so not sure... anyone know the confident answer????

because the term incidence is not correlated with fatality!
in order to calculate fatality , we use mortality rate
