Hi!
Just received my score for step 2: 87. I am not too impressed, since I got only 86 on my first step. How are my chances as a FMG to get into a good neurology or pathology residency?
Thanks a lot

i think that if you have pathology experience or you r intrested in pathology you have chance ....this is what a pathologist told me, ..
it also depend on your visa status...
i have question , my score in step 1 is 87 .. do you have any idea what is my chance to score 90 ??? what is the difference between the 2 exams ?

Rainer, I think pathology is not that competitive, and with your score you can make it. Congratulations. The score is not that bad. It is not something astonishing but it is not bad at all.You are a happy medium. If you have good LOR's and some experience from before either research or even clinical it won't be a problem. I've got also 87 on step 1 and preparing for step 2. I am an optimist. Not everybody score above 90 and people are still getting residencies. Everything above 85 is decent.

Noor, took my exam on Dec 3, so you should receive your results this week.
USMLE, I think you have good chances to score 90, the test didn't feel so hard, I thought I would do better than 87. The big difference is between both steps is that step 2 is clinical, whereas the first one was basic science. Answer those 150 questions they send you, this is pretty much what they will ask you, it's the same level. Did also PreTest and NMS, both books were all right to practice MCQs again and again, but the real USMLE is more like the CD. Don't know about Kaplan, i think you can do well without Kaplan, think it is too expensive and not your money worth. Rather you go on vacation and have a good time or you give your money to charity, but don't give it to Kaplan!!!
Good luck and think positive
