need suggestions.... - ddw
#1
hi my friends

can you please give me some suggestion about which specialist to go? or do I still have chance to match?

My score:
step 1 240 (2nd attempt),
step 2 236 (1st) ,
step 2 cs pass (1st).

I graduate on 2008 and did 3 months ob in a private clinic and 3 months externership on a university hospital.
I need a visa.

I know the step1 attemp hurts me...but I don't know do I still have any chance to match.

Thank you.

Do step 3, your scores are good despite the attempt.

Start making a list after checking each Programme website to see if they accept 5 years+ in MI & NY areas.

2015 is going to be more competetive, so wait for match day & see how many on this thread with attempts get thru,

Do not waste your money on OB however, FM & Peids - if you have any interest in (you will get a better idea on choosing your speciality after seeing the data report of 2014).

Make sure you put useful thread titles "need suggestion" is too vague.

Matching depends on your interview and so you should be focused on getting interviews. Have a focus. Choose one of the primary care specialities : IM, Peds, FM.... (Or psych) Focus always helps ....
Canada1 recommendations are good .... add more clinical experience.

Good score in step 3, US Lors from univesity hospital doctors, Us clinical exp and Paper publications can add to your Cv.

FM, IM would be good one to apply for.

Friend, I think you are a good candidate despite the attempt on step 1. Most people with an attempt on step 1 end up clearing it with a low score, you did quite the opposite. As canada said, research programs well as your yog does not help. You have a phd as well? That will surely help. Do apply widely if you can, and the more usce you have, the better. Make sure you have all the LORS in and apply early. Have several good personal statements ready. Def apply to IM, and some FM for backup. OB will be difficult, but if you are passionate about it, rural and some other family medicine programs offer good opportunity for OB. I interviewed at Indianapolis, Indiana Methodist, and many of the family docs do C-sections and are completely responsible for OB patients. Also, a passing grade on Step 3 will only help your cause. Pass on the first attempt though! It will show that the medicine is still fresh in your mind despite your yog.

I think you will be fine if you work on your research experience and try to publish a paper or 2 .. This will increase your chances.. Good luck
