Pediatric Applicants Please advice. - medicine_king

Congratulations to all those who matched.

Dear friends I need your advice about Pediatrics. I am trying to match since last 2-3 years in FM and IM but being unsuccessful. My score are 210, 198, CS all first attempt and Step-3 195 ( 3rd) , Green card holder, Have lots of experiences in both FM and IM. But I got yesterday opportunity to Observe at big University hospital in pediatric department. What do you guys suggest? I am planning to apply for pediatric also from next year. with these credential how it would be?

From 2013 match data:

Non-US IMGs that matched in pediatrics:
Step 1 avg: 223
Step 2CK avg: 231
Avg # years since graduation: 3.9

Non-US IMGs that DID NOT match in pediatrics:
Step 1 avg: 211
Step 2CK avg: 217
Avg # years since graduation: 7.2

Average scores are higher for Peds than FM I think.

Non US IMG that matched in FM:
Step 1 avg: 213
Step 2 avg: 219
Avg # years since graduation: 3.6

Non-US IMGs that DID NOT match in FM:
Step 1 avg: 204
Step 2 avg: 210
Average # years since graduation: 7.8

But the final point is these are averages..so there is high and low ends to these. The only varialble which matters finally in this journey is you. An amazing post from one of our friend here

The other thing I like to point out is this year 70% of peds spots went to AMGs. I'm not trying to stop anyone from applying to peds, but I guess I just want to let people know which direction the specialty is going.
