cytotoxin assay results take time, so i think in acute cases, u can do sigmoidoscopy for quick dx.

limited sigmoidoscopy is done in severely ill patient with negative stool toxin and high suspicion of c.diff.

I read this q in uworld... you have to look at the case scenario,.
in uworld or mtb..its always toxin 1st.... in this perticular q in uword..they say limited sigmoidoscopy is a good option in sevelery ill patient in whom you suspect c.diff but the toxin is negative.
you never do a sigmoidocopy on all patients who show up with loose stools to the hosp...
