a 68 year old man comes to the emergency department because of chest pain for 30 minutes. an ECG shows a regular rate and rhythm and inverted T waves. while laboratory studies are being done, he is given oxygen and aspirin. aspirin is most appropiate in the treatment of this patient because of teh inhibition of which of the follwoing enzymes?
a) cox
b) lipoxygenase
c) phospholipase A2
d) PGI2
e) TXa2 synthase

I know is a really easy question, bc Im almost sure that is A, but is the option E a posibility?

aspirin inhibits cox 1 and 2 preventing the formation of PGH2. PGH2 uses Txa2 synthase to produce thrombaxane. Aspirin is inhibiting the formation of PGH2 not necessarily blocking txa2 synthase.

Just add to ahad, the Q just want to know if you can recall the irreversibility drug to COXs that lead to ↓ thromboxanes & PG from arachidonic ( so if you asking indirectly? Yes! ) You should beware pat/MI w chest pain in ER setting (may have Aortic diss) so u try to avoid that.
