profuse bloody diarrhea - itsthatdo

22 year old male, one week of profuse bloody diarrhea. Denies eathing anything new or recent travel. reports to be under great deal of stress at work. most appropriate initial test is
a. barium enema
b. colonoscopy
c. ct scan of abdomen with contrast
d. flat plate of the abdomen
e. sigmoidoscopy

d-it should b flat plate of abdomen ,i think its not appropriate to proceed with invasive tests first before getting a general idea of whats inside. it could b infective diarrhea or it could be IBD . This my 2 cents

why not barium studies ?what will you find from abd flat plate?please explain

b. colonoscopy. this is correct answer as per my answer sheet. the only thing that makes sense is stressed induced ulcerative colitis. Its something im pulling out my butt because the only semi-hint is age and scenario. remember UC is bimodal from 15-25 and 60s. endoscopy (like colonoscopy) best to diagnose. colonoscopy is better than signmoidoscopy.

the way this question was presented was meant to waste time, no way i would of thought of this right away if it were not in the forefront of my mind.
