This is not true. The chances of matching (into at least the bottom program) is not related to how you rank them

guys... it could be 100% from 1 IV or 0% from 15 IV... nobody knows... you need to think carefully when you rank the programs... that what matters!

based on the 2013 nrmp for IMGs for IM
with 10 Contiguous Ranks in IM (ranking 10 IM programs continuously and IM program ranked as #1 ) your probability is around 82 %
for your friend, the probability was around 50%

If you have stellar personality you can match with 1 program. IF you have 30 interviews but your personality is shit or you are extremely awkward then you have 0%.

Only using Non-US IMG pathology match last year's data: only 1 iv, 25% 2 IVs, 45%, 3 IVs 38%; 4 IVs 80%; 5 IVs 100%...7 IVs 83.3%, then from there upward, match possibility was gone down; 10+ interviews, un-matched possibility 25%. Very interesting. Also, Step 1>230, match possibility 60%; Step 2 CK>240, 70%.
