UK GP looking to get into family medicine asap - oyztr7
#1
Dear all,

I am a GP in UK needing to relocate to NY asap. I have worked in UK for 8 years.

I have been in touch with ABFM & advised that I can sit boards right away via reciprocity arrangements. I also have ECFMG certification from 2008 but my major concerns is getting License to practice in NY. I can not do 3 years of residency ....

Can any of you who has been through the same situation please advise what might be a way forwards ?

Many thanks

No state will issue you a license without residency.
You need to go through a residency program. No way out.

You have to go through residency for the most part to practice in the US. There might be loopholes where you can get licensed with 1 or 2 years of prelim/fellowship years as a GP, but i'm not too sure about that. Apply to residencies in NY if you must be there, work hard on your steps so you are guaranteed a good position, and work at it for 3 years. Thats your best bet.

There are no 'loopholes'. Have to do residency

you should apply to Residency, you have good chance to match.
Most of the states require 3 years (some less, but not less than one)of training for IMGs, and you can not sit to any board without a valid unrestricted license. No way Jose.
