if a question asks you what's the next step for a possible motility disorder (DES, achalasia) the best answer is EGD or barium studies?. In FA it says that EGD is first but in other sources, it says barium swallow.

If the question about dysphagia(spasm or achalasia) for both liquid and solid at same time the best intial -barium
If case describe progressive (tumor)solid then liquid +weight loss + risk factors(smoking or alcohol or history of GERD)- best EGD
