Medical Elective - dayman
#1
Hi all. I'm an IMG that is doing an elective in the US. I'm nervous about making a good impression on my attending physician and was wondering if you could give any advice about how to succeed in the US medical care setting. I plan on thoroughly reviewing elective topic, physical exam and practicing English on presenting patient history beforehand.
step 1 +, step 2 Ck +, step 2 Cs not yet
Thank you in advance Smile

First of all chill. Congrats on getting a elective. Just be confident and be yourself. Review your patients history, treatment and managment. Ask lot of questions. Be warm and pleasant to everyone right from the security guard to your patients Make sure your patients like you. This is all you need to impress them. Good luck

Talk to other students who’ve rotated in that location before getting into that elective. Every student should show up early, stay late, and try their best to become part of the team. Take advantage of opportunities in the community to volunteer at free clinics and outreach events—you can gain a lot of hands-on experience while helping others. You can make connections.
