Try to get hands-on rotations in pathology to make the application strong.

At least 3 residencies had official observerships this year:
1. Jackson Memorial (Florida) - need to get invite from one of the attendings, $150/month, Accept 4 persons per month 2. New York Presbyterian Hospital (NY) - I did not apply, but know the person who did it 3. Mount Sinai Medical Center (Florida) - need to pass Steps 1-2 above 220 (as far as I remember); $750/month. Accept 2 person per month (fall or spring only). Apply in January, I applied at March - and they were fully booked for this year.

You also can do paid observerships ($1600-4000/month). As far as I know, MedClerkships and AmeriClerkships have 2-3 pathology programs.
You will need at least 4 month of rotation in programs to get 4 Pathology LORs by September. I do not recommend you to start with research - it is not very useful for getting iv invites.

Try to get hands-on rotations in the pathology programs to make the application better by getting strong LOR.
