Position Description
Dr. Allan Geliebter, world renowned in obesity & eating disorder research, has slots available for three volunteer research assistants in his research laboratory.
Effort will be made to match research assistants with projects according to preference, but will depend upon availability and schedule.
Current projects in the lab include:
- fMRI research in obesity (new project, will lead to paid position and publication if enough time is committed)
- a supermarket-based environmental intervention for eating behavior and obesity (needs multiple people)
- effect of stress on appetite hormones and eating behavior, involves analysis
- blood draws and processing
- other opportunities

Position Requirements
No prior research experience is necessary. Juniors, seniors, postbacs, graduate students, young professionals welcome. Research assistants will be responsible for various aspects of research, explained at weekly research meetings with Dr. Allan Geliebter. This is excellent practice in hospital procedures, clinical policies, and IRB and NIH protocols. Patient face-to-face-time is abundant and encouraged.
Location
Primarily at St. Luke's on 114th St and Amsterdam. There are occasional opportunities to attend meetings and symposia at 102th St and Madison Ave, 168th St and Fort Washington, etc. If recruitment of further study participants is needed, this is sometimes done remotely via phone screeners, or on occasion at recruitment centers (travel is compensated).

- publish research articles or abstracts, poster presentations at conferences; become blood draw certified at Mount Sinai
- build Curriculum Vitae, increasing chances of admission to graduate/medical programs

- gain clinical experience, research experience, clinical shadowing experience, attend interesting conferences and talks and meet key scientists, doctors and surgeons
Time Commitment
Applicants must be planning to be in the New York City area and available to commit 10-15 hours/week for two semesters. Preference will be given to applicants who plan to continue into the summertime, particularly preference for any job openings in the lab. We have and non-business hour opportunities as well, although a few of the weekly hours should be in person.
