research experience from INDIA?? -

hello
i have this little doubt...does a research experience in a fields like public health (from the most reputed university of India)..like working on topic like iron deficiency anemia would help me in getting a residency in states...like does it hold importance even if i choose to go in field like paediatrics or family practice..??...
someone kindly advice if u guys have any idea..i am kind of confused!!
