Any of u guys know the scope of Fp in USA?
From the financial prospective ,Is it better than IM?
A new finding shows that It is very hard to get matched to FP program than IM(15% vs 47%).

No. FP is easier than IM. Financially speaking, FP and IM make the same. However, after IM you can go to the more lucrative subspecialties such as Cards. I'll tell you something about residencies in the US. It's ALL about the money. Competitiveness is proportional to the specialty's income.
eg. very lucrative specialties: Neurosurgery (500K/y)-very competitive, Surgical subsp. (400K+/y)-very competitive, Radiology, Rad Onc, ENT, derm, opth, all high paying, highly competitive.
In FP, you'll make around 130K, therefore it's not very competitive.

Your post is pretty informative, joewest. Can u tell me a bit more about the placement of FP specialists? After the residency is over,if one is not interested in pursuing the limited no. of fellowships available, where does one find work?I assume that u cant get employed in hospitals. So other than setting up your own clinic, what else can one do?Being an IMG,i have very limited knowledge of the way the health system works in the states.Your help will be much appreciated.
