it doesnt matter. as long as you meet the 5,7, or 10 year licensing criteria for taking all steps.

also...some states like NY it is unlimited. try to find out where you will likely get a residency position. that way you'll be already licensed in that state. some specialties offer more free time than others and you may be able to moonlight as a house officer.
