i think it depends on the scenario....x ray is not used for confirmation although its supportive...diagnosis is always clinical.......airway is always first

It's always a clinical diagnosis. Xrays are usually not done. If u suspect other diagnosis like retropharyngeal abscess, then lateral neck x ray is very useful adjunct.

We don't visualise larynx if u suspect epiglottitis. It has to be done by experienced doctor with expertise in intubation.

If child need intubation, then u can do xary after intubation, not before

in suspected epiglottitis if we try to examine the Larynx they can have severe laryngospasm,isn`t it?

yep, these pts have tons of secretions and when the secretions fall on the vocal cords...that causes the irritation and laryngospasm...

if the experts i.e. anestehsia/ENT are not involved the situation can get out of hand...

anesthesia knows how to use muscle relaxants and thus escapes laryngospasm..

brochiolitis is lower resp tract dis. it cant cause laryngospasm. this is epiglottitis which can cause it.
