what does ''waiver by patient'' mean in the exceptions of getting an informed consent? and what kind of information would be harmful to the patient ?

waiver by pt means something else from ur ques!!!

waiver means pt had signed for ex a written consent and then during time of surgery has waived it!!!

he said no for surgery!!

Re: Waiver of informed consent: occurs when pt indicates that he does not want to be told information that concerns a specific procedure OR wants the physician to make the decision for him. The doctor has to challenge the patient's desire for the waiver at first, to insure that the patient understands the implications of what he is asking for and then the M.D. has to clearly document the discussion in the chart.
