How to answer the quesion "am I going to die". I think a little difficult. the answer should be very careful because patient may be in a very discomfortable, stressful, or devastated condition. Actually we should answer any challenging quesions appropriately during the real exam. the answers should be different based on different scenarios. if the patient comes for medical treatment after a car accident with unstable vital signs. be honest with pt and say:your condition really raises concern and it is urgent. we will start by doing some tests which will tell us whether your problem is life-threatening, and we must observe you very closely until we can make the diagnosis. we will do our best to help you, do you have any quesions for me?

the answer to challenging question "am I going to die" may be a little difficult. pt may be in an extremely discomfortable, scared, stressful and devastated situation. it could be better give pts different answers based on different scenarios. e.g. pt comes for medical treatment after a car accident with unstalbe vital signs. "your condition raises concern and is urgent, we will start with running some tests to see whether it is life-threatening, we also must observe you very closely until we can determine what causes you problem. we'll do our best to help you and keep you informed.
