Why is surgery so compititive in this country? How can one increase her/his chance of getting it?

I have met many ppl getting into categorical surgery residency...
they did hard core, research in the same program for a year or more
and they proved themselves by working hard for thme for such a long time..
and ofcourse, graduate within 5 yrs and USMLE scores >95..

It is competitive, but not impossible.....

Most of the people I know in surgery residency programs did prelim surgery as a start,
I think this Prelim surgery as a 1 year paid USCE is very helpful for you.
