are they the same? they can't be...

is DNA gyrase also a topoisomerase?

the enzyme is the same yes. It says so in the Pharm section

DNA gyrase is type topoisomerase II in bacteria...it requires ATP whereas topoisomeraseII does not
DNA gyrase adds negative supercoils in bacterial DNA in addition to relieving positive supercoils
Topoisomerase II relieves positive supercoils only

fluoroquinolones target bacterial DNA gyrase
