H1B visa for fellowship - sammatches

Advice please!!!If I do a fellowship on H1B visa immediately after internal medicine will have a chance to apply for green card?H1B expires in 6 years and without extension we have to leave US for 1 year and come back again on H1B for employment.

it is very tough to get fellowships on H1, and for the reason you mentioned above, most of residents on H1 work as PCP for 2-3 years till they get gc and then go for fellowship.

Green card in 2 to 3 years is not a reality for Indians and Chinese..wait time can be more than 5 years, sometimes 10 years..but if i get a fellowship on H1b (some people do get) is it possible to apply for green card during fellowship?

From all I know, it is possible to apply for greencard while doing 2nd yr of your fellowship, make sure you have lots of publications to be under the fast track category (EB2 or 1- am not sure)

And then, even if your fellowship is over and ur GC has not arrived, you can keep renewing your H1 (assuming u will get a job soon after fellowship) till u get ur GC
The reason for H1 renewal being- awaiting GC confirmation

To get a fellowship on H1 is difficult due to funding issues, rather than on J1
But yes, even I know some of my seniors on H1 doing fellowship

@mdsteve or anybody..who is going to sponsor green card for us when we are already on H1b during fellowship?
