Is local fruit in Jamaica called "Ackee", which blocking β-oxidation is by traveling to Jamaica and eating the local fruit. The heat-labile alkaloid hypoglycin in this fruit causes Fasting HypOglycemia by blocking the acyl-CoA dehydrogenases of β-oxidation. Market vendors in Jamaica warn tourist that this fruit must be cooked well because it is poisonous when eaten raw. just something to think about along this question. |
