Ranking - caribqueen100

IF a PD says that he or she is ranking me competitively, what does that mean?

Nothing. For all you know the PD could be saying that to majority of the applicants. They say whatever is needed for you to rank them high so that they have a shot at having no unfilled positions. Its the game that we all play.

means you are in the rank (so congrats for that), but means nothing otherwise. no prediction can be made on where in the rank; "competitively" can be high or can be low. do don't read much into it. they intentionally word it in a way that it doesn't convey any information. if they're dying for an applicant they might call directly to tell. unless the applicant is a super-duper-hot-shot or an ivy league grad or from other awesome us college, it's a rarity

Yea I was told that by one PD this year and I just took it with a grain of salt. As a match veteran, I don't look much into what a PD says until I see an email confirming a match. But keep a positive mind towards it. Good luck.
