Best time to go to US before starting residency - whentotravel

I am trying to book a flight ahead of time in order to benefit from good rates. Given that residency starts July 1st, when would be the best time to travel to the US so as to arrange accommodation and settle in before orientation begins?

i think one week before residency starts. you arent allowed in before that. check with your seniors.

If going in on J1, no more than 30 days earlier to your start date of July 1st.
