It can be prevented w/ vaccine targeted against an oncogenic virus. (USMLE) This disease is edemic in Japan.
It is cause by human T-cell leukemia virus known as HTLV-1
For the USMLE, you should also be aware of the other neoplastic disease thought to be caused by viruses:
Burkitt Lymphoma (Epstein-Barr Virus).
Hepatocellular Carcinoma (Hepatitis B Virus)
Cervical/penile/anal carcinoma (Human Papillomavirus)
Kaposi Sarcoma.
Note: Kaposi sarcoma is assoc w/ HIV but is now thought be caused by a specific Kaposi-sarcoma-associated herpesvirus HHV8 (Human Herpes Virus 8)
