Dear XXXXXXX,

We regret that we are unable to offer you an invitation for an interview. We do wish you well in your pursuit of a post graduate program for surgical training.

Thank you for your interest in the surgical residency program at Vanderbilt. We were privileged to receive your application and accompanying documents. We know applications consume much time, effort, and some expense.

The quality and depth of the candidates seeking surgical training continue to increase and the review process becomes more arduous and time-consuming each year. We have received nearly 900 applications for our 7 categorical spots. We offer interviews to about 80 folks plus our own students.

We appreciate your interest and thank you for considering Vanderbilt.

Sincerely,

John L. Tarpley, M.D.

Program Director, General Surgery Residency
