Correct answer is A.
(A) Congenital toxoplasmosis occurs only in
infants whose mothers are primarily or initially
infected with Toxoplasma gondii. The
mothers are almost always asymptomatic,
and subsequent offspring are not affected.
The severely affected fetus may be stillborn,
born prematurely, or born alive at full
term. Clinical manifestations include hydrocephalus,
microcephaly, maculopapular rash,
hepatosplenomegaly, micro-ophthalmia, and
chorioretinitis. The full impact of the disease
on the infant™s development may not become
apparent for months. (Rudolph et al, pp 768“772)
