Do you stop or continue breast feeding if mastitis. crush says no but kaplan dsays yes

hi,
u do not stop breastfeeding , it is continued so as to decompress the breast and reduce inflammation . another method could be to express the breast manually

i always had the same confusion as different books seem to say different things.

drjian is right..... I looked it up in CMTD and they say to continue emptying hte breast by nursing or expressing the milk by hand or with a pump. In addition, give pt dicloxacillin or a cephalosporin 500 mg 6 hourly for 5-7 days.

I and D if there is occurance of a breat absess..

Thanks for the good question. I think we should trust what is written in cmdt.....Now I won't forget the answer!

I think the mother has to continue breastfeeding, because it would worse the pain (and infection and inflammation of course). So I agree with Kaplan and CMDT.
