How do you get a feel for your chances ranking in a certain program? Is it okay to ask programs where we roughly are in their ranking? or other questions to get a feel for our chances?

you can try to ask...but what is the point?
even if you know where you roughly ranked, that should not affect your rank list...
just rank according to your preference...match algorithm favors the applicant...

for programs, on the other hand it can matter (not much, but there are cases) when it's good to know where applicants rank them...and recently, PD from one of the programs called and try diplomatically assess how interested I am in his program and where roughly I am going to rank them...
