I am at present doing an externship at a Private hospital and one of its affliated clinic under a doc.Would that be good enough to b doing till August or should I be targeting for USCE in University hospital setup?Does USCE in Academic setup with daily rounds with residents, students around count more than doing in private hospitals which includes just seeing patients?

Boss007,

You are doing great.
USCE in a university hosp is only great because of the connections you build within the institution.
Th truth is that, there is no externship available in a university hosp, it is all observership so truly, this experience you get is not quite hands on and that does not make your application any better than somebody who actually interviewed patients, examined them and presented to an attending.

It all depends on the LOR you get. if the LOR is going to comment on your clinical involvement and your hands-on experience then perhaps a university letter loks better but if it is not going to be strong on what you actually did and your LOR in a private clinic or hosp gonna relate strong words on what you did then the private experience is better.

hi boss007, what you are doing is more than enough, make sure to get at least one US LOR.
