There is nothing hard about getting into neuropsychiatry residency, you can most definetly get it if you get good scores ( High 80's or above ). The field is not very compatative at all, i have talked with one of the residents doing PGY 2 in neuropsyc at university of West Virginia and he told me he loves it. There is no advantage of having done this residency cause the pay scale is about the same if you do phyciatry or neurology or neuropsychiatry, so why suffer few extra years in residency without any benefit?

not really doc_doc you don't have any advantage to getting more pts in neuro/psych but if you go into IM/Psych now that is different you can charge more from your pts as psychiatrist rather than an internist much more bulk of Psychiatric pts. Some poeple also go for med/peds? why? they can make more money in family practice than doing only med/peds, with family you can even add geriatic and gyn/obs pts as well that means more procedures that means more money. or people going into IM/ER? you can work in the ER withoud doing ER residency but if you are a ER doc you can't work in Internal med ( hospitalist or an Internist etc etc). Tell you the truth i don't know the logic behind two field specialties except IM/Psych which make little more money than others that i have just mentioned.

How many people do you know who have done neuro/pshyc, med/peds, or IM/ER make more money than a internist? hardly any. I am going for the match this year and going for Internal Med and persuing my career in (EP )Cardio.

GL man Smile
