kindly explain this t(14;18)? - mojo2525
#1
please explain this to me

when we say
t(8;14) we mean C-myc sitting on chromosome 8 comes and sits on chromosome 14

similarly
t(11;14) Cyc-D1 sitting on chrom 11 comes and sits on chrom 14

NOW, when we see Follicular lymphoma and we know TRANSLOCATION OCCURS IN A WAY THAT BCL-2 FROM CHROM 18 COMES AND SITS AGAIN ON CHROM 14

WHY ????????? Are we not calling it as translocation(18;14) ?????? why is it called t(14;18) ???

thankyou

It's simply a matter of convention and does not relate to the specifics of the how the translocation functions.

I wish there were a more satisfying answer, but that's it.

in case or M3 type of AML also there is retinoic acid receptor alpha from chromosme 17 is translocated to chromosome 15 PML gene but we write t(15;17) i guess we write smaller one first...
