FYI: Psych residency requirements - fortabt11

Wrote to MUSC and received following.
I think it's bizarre to expect an FMG to have 2 years USCE.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you for your inquiry regarding our Residency Training Program in General Psychiatry. This recruitment "season" we will again be participating in the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC) ERAS or Electronic Residency Application Service, which is done over the Internet. No applications sent by mail or fax will be considered. (See "How to Apply" page on our website). For your information, we will probably be filling eleven PGY-1 slots for the 2007-08 Academic year. This current year we received 249 applications, and interviewed 53 applicants.

Requirements for International Medical Graduates are that the following should be received by no later than mid-November (through ERAS) to allow time for each application to be reviewed and considered by the Resident Selection Committee for a personal interview (which is also a requirement):
- ERAS Application
- Copy of your valid/current ECFMG certificate.
- Verification that you have recently spent two years (minimum) working in an American Medical School or Hospital setting as either a research assistant or observer
- Minimum of three letters of recommendation from current American work experience
- completed your medical training no longer than 3 years ago
- Copies of USMLE, with minimum scores of 220 (preferred, not required) on both Steps 1 and 2 (CK and CS)
- J-1 Visa preferred -
- Curriculum Vitae (probably included in ERAS Common Application Form)
- Dean's Letter and Transcript from your medical school
- Current Photo

Thank you for your interest in our program at the Medical University of South Carolina, and the very best of luck to you in your search.
