observership,research - asdasd

i m living in chicago.
at which place i try for observership.
if i do some research ,they usually give us some paperwork very little research work.
is it worthful.does research has a value WITHOUT PUBLICATION.

regarding research, i personally feel if you're going to spend time researching, you should come away from it with at least one publication.
