What does Designated prelim mean?
I got matched to a Neuro program started at PGY-2, I need to find a prelim position. I only got 1 interview for prelim. Now my question is: can I rank categorical IM in my ROL? I mean after the prelim.
Thanks a lot

designated means a prelim position that u have to do after getting advanced program like the one u got. No u can't rank cat. IM as u r already matched in neuro,,, and if u match in cat IM then you'l be in big trouble,, so better not to rank any cat. programs,, instead ask the IM program that u have interviewd that u r interested in designated prelim. Usually getting designated prelim is easier than getting nondesignated prelim after getting advanced PGY-2 program.
U can do desig prelim in surg/med/ ped (as far as i know.),, And one of the place that i interviewed i.e. AECOM (motifiore) has many designated surg. seats and i think it will go unfilled as told by the PD ,, so u can contact them. GL

Thank you very much, nizan. I really appreciate your help.
What do you think of my chance to get a PGY-1 position in Scramble?
