Dr. Q. Buck wants to patent his idea so that he can start his own biotechnology company and leave academia. He will cut you in on the deal, so you can leave your oncology fellowship and join him at his firm, if you will help him put his idea into action to test it first. Transcription factors bind certain consensus sequences. Transcription factors from cancer cell lines many not bind these sequences as well, but they may better bind other sequences, slightly different from the consensus sequence. From a collection of mutated consensus sequences and a preparation containing transcription factor from a cancer cell line, you propose to find the better binding sequences by passing a mixture of the transcription factor and the collection of sequences through a gel-filtration chromatography column of a type that excludes the transcription factor in question from retention. Each of the pieces of consensus sequence has a radioactive tag at one of the ends. If the transcription factors from the cancer cell line binds the mutated consensus sequences better than the normal cell lines then

A The first fractions collected should be radioactive
B The first fractions collected should not be radioactive
C There should be no proteins in the first fractions
collected
D There should be no consensus sequences in the first fractions collected
E All the transcription factors should be in the first fractions
