path has become very competitive in the last few years. If u have good credentials u have a better chance of matching in im or peds than pathology. Some of the things which are imp. for path imho...are residency from home country...best, step 3 cleared, some exp in path...observership esp 1 lor from a pathologist, research and publications +/- depending on the program, GC/citizenship helps. The programs are mainly looking for your interest in pathology.
