took usmle1 exam june 2002
i used both. pros: step up has nice tables for pathophys, but its drug and microsection are poor. first aid is broader and has much more info. cons: neither alone is adequate. if i had to use one, it would be first aid.
most of the questions on step 1 focus on pathophysiology. i wish i had known reproductive endocrinology much better since i got a lot of ??? on that topic. lots more of behavioral
sci than anticipated. lots more epi (eg, power, OR, PPV, NPV, etc) than anticipated. very little anat, histo, biochem, embryo (did get 1 brachial plexus Q which i hope i got right).
i think kaplan q bank is very efficient- if you can master BRS path, first aid, and do the q-bank 2x, you should be in great shape.
