yeah i know what u mean about the uncertainty and stuff.
but, really guys, let's say u had a prelim spot at a top institiution versus a categorical at an average program would u really forego the prelim spot?

well if u get a prelim position at a very good program,and do well,u have a very good chance of cat position at some other program,if u r lucky enough u might be selected in the same program for cat position or for a pgy2 opening.but if i had an option of a cat position from say an average program i wud take it,y to take unnecessary chances,if the program is worst program ever then ....it will be like...thx but no thx.

If you don't get a position you still have a chance in the scramble, a lot of prelim positions are available in the scramble for good candidates, including IMG's

it is always better to take the CAT position than the prelim position ( as i stated earlier)
