you can have residency in georgia but you need to have reciprocity for state license from texas to georgia when your done with your residency ,otherwise you can not practice as a junior consultant/specialist in your field. some states are strict becuase passing step 3 will grants you full pledge state license as physician ,whereas passing only step1,step2 ck and CS- or ECFMG certified will only grant us provisonary license which is only for training use and under a direct supervision of state board certified MDs.

Hi Joglo.. thanx for the response.. what do you mean by reciprocity for state license from texas to georgia?

Is that easy to do, and given 100% of time no matter what state I want to license in?

And let me ask you one more question.. suppose I took Step 3 in Texas but I don't have a license in Texas (I simply took it after Step 2CK before applying for residency).. will that give me problems getting license in Georgia and other states that require some residency training prior to taking Step 3?

my sister in law had that from CT to florida when she was done with her training and moved south because of the weather. Its like a formal certification that you already comply with the exam requirement from the said date. But remember that you have also to show proof of residency completion from your training institute if your applying for those states which make it a requirement before granting state license.Taking step 3 is completely not synonymous with granting state license, once you pass step 3- you pass step 3,its just that some states wont let you take it without residency. If you are heading for a clinical training, most people take it after residency or when they are almost done with it ,simple because it offers more chance for you to pass the exam(added advantage) with your clinical day to day exposure.
