Hi,
Like pinky69 said, this exam is an endurance test so one may know your material but if not a good test taker then may not do as well on this exam. If you are confident about the knowledge part then you have to work just as hard on test taking skills while preparing to take this exam over. Unfortunately having 65-75% on UW qbank can be very misleading if all are doing is 1 or 2 blocks a day in the luxury of your home - it can build a false level of confidence. As you do more blocks of questions a day under timed mode with only 5 or 10mins between blocks, fatigue begins to set in and your average may drop considerably thus the importance of training yourself to do several blocks a day under as similar settings as on the day of the real exam. You can try pinky69,s method of begin with 2 blocks and working your way up or if you can then do the 8 blocks straight(once a week) method i described. Either way whats most important is to not give up but to recharge and start again and make sure you dont rush in taking the exam until you are very comfortable with your progress. You'll do great!!!

thanks mission99 again for ur valuable suggestions. ya thats how I did, 1-2 blocks in timed mode and thats it, was reviewing the answers. Iam pretty sure if I dont know all the stuff, I know most of it. I always crack down under pressure, I know that. I lose focus.

I will try Pinky's suggestion on most days of the week and mission suggestion once a week and see how I go about in 2 weeks and then access myself.

If anyone has anything to say more, I really would appreciate that.

Thanks in advance

The comment about choosing one day a week to do a mock exam of 8 blocks is a great idea, one I will use in my own prep;

I have failed this exam seven times, mainly because I thought that I had the concepts down, when in reality I did not because I did not repeat the readings. You and I will pass only if we read one source two to four times, so that we get at least 500 on any nbme test.

The source I will use is fischer's mtb for step 2, which will be on sale nov 30; till then I am reviewing old uw notes, and praying that I will pass on 8th attempt.

Never give up; try and try, till you die; all god asks us to do is try, it is up to him whether we pass today, tomorrow, or next month; but in the end, we all pass because we try. Always have faith in god.

Docboy ........ I read the advice of Misssion"99" and Pinky"96" and I am loosing sleep on the potency of this formulae......Mission "99" + Pinky "96" = Mission I'-M POSSIBLE. By my conservative estimate we can finish UW q bank with rigorous review in about 24 days. Minimum 12 hours a day. We can purchase a new set of online UW and work on team viewer. We have to lock-Horns for 12 hours at the expense of everything willing to sacrifice for our success. We will spend 8 h on q bank on day 1, review 4 blocks per day for the next 2 days..... During review, we must be able to know: Diagnosis, BASIC Pathophysiology and Management (work-up and treatment), Difeerentials and why they doffer and complications. We then take diagnostic NBME at the end of each "mission"
The absolute requirement is to BELIEVE that sUccess has two parts, one of them is in "U". Pls mail me if u want us to try this together amleepass

dont worry, youre not alone...

i think its a concentration/outlook thing too. Its hard to motivate yourself to study when u keep thinking about how u screwed up so badly.

I suggest putting yourself in an environment where there are alot of iother people studying. This definitely helps. It may take a little while for u to adjust, but i promise (from experience) having others around u, many of whom have failed too, will help you out.

try subject by subject too.
Sometimes doing all different things at once doesnt allow you to collect the concepts of a particular subject when LEARNING it. So study a subject, lets say read the kaplan cardio section, read mtb before and/or after then read the cardio again. let it sink in, sleep on it. next day, write out what you can remember- EVERYTHING you can remember about cardio from the day before.
and write out what you cant.
this is a good way to test yourself and see where/what sticks and what needs more attention.
after this do questions. but pace yourself, do them timed, and take a break before you go back and review the answers,
NEVER look at your score at this point, think of it as a guide whether than a judgment of your knowledge.
I know you already feel crappy abt the knowledge thing, so dont throw wood on the fire.

When you go over your answers, take your time. If you dont feel like doing it, then dont. during the time youre not reviewing, review in your mind all of your accomplishments in life. Think of all of the things you have done, whether it be aced an impossible orgo test in college, or won a game of baseball.
Think of that feeling that you had. I know this sounds stupid, but it works.
IF you want, remember a bunch of things, like maybe the fact that people would do anything to be in your position and have the ability to even take a test to be a doctor. youve done ALOT and youre EXCEPTIONAL. remember that if it was easy, everyone would do it. and its not. youve done it, youre there, now put yourself there mentally.
Know what youve accomplished, be proud of yourself...and put your modesty in your back pocket.
You wouldnt have gotten this far if you couldnt do this.
Now prove to YOURSELF that you can.... get your mind together and keep focused on whats in front of you.
I see a really intelligent doctor who, like everyone else (believe me), hit a little bump, and bc of who you are and all that youve done, youre going to get right over it... if you call it easy, then it is. this is not difficult. put your mind in a comfortable place with yourself.
I promise when you feel the way u did about yourself, and are happy and proud of all youve accomplished, your actions will follow and youll realize that today is today, right now is right now. Put 100% into this, because youre 100% got u pretty far already..
youre going to do great.. I know you are.. keep your mind in the right place. no more saying "i failed" and thinking about it. put that energy into whats in front of you now.. at this moment. bc u cant change the past but u can create a hell of a future.. go for it Smile
