biochem q................... - shells
#11
Kaplan (Biochem) pge 207 2010...
it says...... it is important to note that glucose produced by hepatic gluconeogenesis does not represent an energy source for the liver.Gluconeogenesis requires expenditure of ATP that is provided by beta -oxidation of fatty acids ....so this Energy can not be used for Gluconeogenesis

the reaction promotes by Glucagon... activated by ATP.......is inhibited by fructose 2,6 bisphoaphate.......is reversible....pyrovate kinase does not role in the reaction......Acidotic pH augments glucagon secretion ........

Regarding B,E,and H I have not any explanations.

Please confirm my answer.TY

G is correct because when the delta g is negative it means that the reaction can only go forward and when it is positive it can only go backwards.
the forward product of phosphofructokinase is fructose 1-6 bisphosphate which ends up to glycolysis ( not gluconeogenesis ) if delta g was positive then it could have gone backwards which is glucose 6 phosphate which ends up to glucose ( gluconeogenesis )

in other words negative delta g means exorganic reaction or release of energy ( glycolysis )
and positive delta g means endorganic reaction or gain of energy

@Raif

fructose 1-6 bisphosphate is a key control point of gluconeogenesis and PFK1 is the main control of glycolysis..

although other options are right but we have to pick answer on the bases of deltaG value.

i agree with raif but choice "A' is also correct in that case cz thermodynamically Favorable Rxns are "Irreversible".

@raif ...what do u think about "A" ?

sorry ****correction***

the reaction promotes by Glucagon... activated by ATP.......is inhibited by fructose 2,6 bisphoaphate.......is *irreversible....pyrovate kinase does not role in the reaction......Acidotic pH augments glucagon secretion ........

@ Sarim you r right about the A if the delta G value stays negative we can say that it is irreversible . i remembered ur kicking the balls of question makers hahah

choices "B" and "E" are about the "Rate of Rxn'(Kinetics of rxn) which is determined by deltaG++ (Energy of activation)......which is Independent of deltaG "Energy i.e released or required"(Thermodynamics of rxn)
