my husband did his residency from one of the programs..both of them are university affiliated community programs in Northeast..and I did observership in these two programs only since I knew my highest chances are there right from the beginning..I knew my profile isnt great and we should be realistic about the match..only my low step 1 score was a flaw apart from it my application was okay ..
They appreciated the fact that I had done 6 months observership + research and also gave CS and CK within a year..
PDs are looking for a reason not to pick you ..luckily the interviewer was a very old guy who didnt really care abt the scores that much..this might have helped me..
bottomline- for contacts you have to do USCE or research and get in touch with your attendings or residents..hang out with them if possible..This helps immensely..
