I know practicing American pathologists who are not able to even get IVs for a second residency in IM/FM. Medicare will only fund one residency.
As others have said, pathology means you are that much farther from clinical patient care, which is not a plus.
Do a path residency only if you can see doing path permanently and you are OK with the poor employment prospects relative to most other specialties.
