please give advice as couple match - drrgangwani
#21
Necker...Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm applying as a couple this year and my wife and I have similar credentials and are applying to the same specialty (IM). Do you know if the program rank us nearby or they consider other things like the performance during the interview day or something else...
Thanks in advance!!!

dear drrgangwani,

as long as you interviewed both at the same hospital,
use the couple's match and rank the programs accordingly to both your preference.
It worked for both of us and got in to our choice spot

Isa2003, for the most part programs will rank you side by side. They obviously will consider factors like interview performance, but since you have similar credentials and probably similar or compatible personalities with your wife, the chances of been ranked similarly increases. Anyway, as I said before, don't try to make assumptions about where in the program's ranking list you and your wife will end. Rank according to your preferences and wait for the Match. BTW, as you should already know, you don't need to rank the same programs necessarily. You can rank combinations of same city or same area if that applies to you, and you can even rank possibilities with one of you getting unmatched.

Hope this helps, and good luck.

It's just not worth NOT applying as a couple if you had the opportunity even DESPITE disparities in your scores or even different preferences in specialty. If one of you is impressive enough, you are likely to pull the weaker of the two of you up rather than the weaker one drag the other down.Pre-match chances are higher. Besides, think of the psychological, social, academic, and last but not least, financial advantages. It's like double the American Dream!!! So... couple's in the MAtch.......don't even consider going it individually. It's just not worth it.

hi all,
i and my husband are couples-matching too, and we are in the same dilemma as any other couple is, we went to 9 intrviews together, no visa issues, but the programs have so few spots in the nrmp quota, that it just makes me wonder if we are going to match this year. but thanks for the encouraging replies, hope we hear good news.
