the story doesn't end there. If they have someone for whom they are fighting for and if they happen to interview others, they ask things that normally should not be asked for residency interview. They make sure that you don't perform well. But they will tell you you are a good candidate and once you are out, they will look for a reason to write a bad remark.

Nepotism, Favoritism is Universal;
Those who do not have any contacts complain about it; those who have relations make use of it!
It is a sad truth! Won't YOU and ME make use of it if we had one?
Look at the schools in our native countries: who cares for MERIT? reservation based on caste is universal; there is reservation in schools by minorities; aren't these examples of nepotism?
Here, at least there are some PDs who are immune to favoritism; so anyway, system here is a lot lot better than what i've experienced in my own land. No complaints!

Nothing is universal!
Yes we will utilize it if we get the chance, but that doesn't make it right.
The fact it is better that were you came from also doesn't make it right. this is a kind of idea we are fighting.

American health system is mainly managed by Americans and that is why all of us has fair chance.
but where fmg are at key positions there is a chance that system may change dramatically.
this is sad fact.

I did not say it is right; but it is everywhere;
If I had my uncle at JHU, won't i utilize/ try to utilize that connection; i will and everyone will if they had such opportunity;
it is not a good system, but widely prevalent, hard to change;
there are no great people like MK Gandhi anymore.....

its bad but pd are not to blame when you have 2000 applicants who are all eligible and qualifeid ,there is no way pd can review all hence he relies on recomendation from residents, other faculties and the pc.we are to blame as average img have applied to 100+ programs

if somebody recommend you this is better than any type of lor, actually that is a life LOR, why PDs should not let those people in???? if somebody comes from a foreign country without knowing anybody how in the world a PD can trust them?,,, but if a professor or someone that pd knows, say i know this guy he is hard working bla bla bla,,, if you are a pd who do you trust,,,, one 99x3 or this guy? PDs know some people are bad test taker,,,, but if you pass you know your stuff,,,, if you are pd what do you do? what we call favoritism back home here it is accepted, nobody object it,,,

This is a perfect example of the Peds dep't at metropolitan hospital, NY.
There is one little satan of an indian woman who interviewed me last year.
she asked only medical questions, trick questions.
she told me twice i was wrong in an area that was my daily function for over five years.
I explained my conclusions, after which she said both times"Oh, i see"
I came home from the interview, did a search on the web and checked my books and then wrote a blistering letter to the PD, I think his name is Mack. I told him I was no longer interested in the program and my reason.
I withdrew from that program because I knew that if I was unfortunate enough to match there, that she would make my life a living hell and i wasn't willing to put up with her for 3 years or risk being let go during PGY1 / not having my contract renewed after PGY1, which would make it almost impossible to get another residency here.
Most importantly, my letter also served to let the PD know about her tactics.
If you are not willing to act to stop people who abuse you or others, then you shouldn't complain.
