Hey callofduty
Thanks mate. That was helpful. I am sure you know how it is, the grass is greener the other side but sometimes it probably is. Its difficult esp when one has this ST number in hand which many aint got one.
I have 2 ivs in hand, hoping for more and get into some decent program. Predictable career option is what entices me to look elsewhere and US is the option for academic paeds as far as i am concerned.
I have thought about this for longer and it always scares me when it might actually happen!!
Hope u get to do what u wish too, sooner or later.
Cheerio

UK is such a unpredictable place....there is no place for talent...all the selection is based on color and race....u might be a complete dumb but if u r EU/white than u will be selected....some of us may get a ST number.....but there are more hurdles ahead and none of the further selection is based on ur knowledge or talent...so u never know what u will end up with....training is completely rubbish...at the end when u come out....all u have learned is urself except in very few places.....selection bias is still there in US...however...once u r in the system....u progress based on ur talent....and its predictable all along ...my personal opinion is go for it

Visas are the main issue in US, other problems are tiny as most of us can work hard.

Other countries do have many invisible barriers (I know every one understands).

Those barriers work for some, hinder others.

If you think those barriers are not in your favour then jump out of UK today, as I dont see any dramatic change in next 10 years.

Here in US you will face clock ticking on your head as J 1 visa, and performance pressure in H visa.
As a GC/ Citizen you do get perks.

In the end I say with authority that if UK is not your home country, US is always better.

No grass in the UK, forget about greener

hi dratish,
i couldnt get into specialist training.....i think we cant comment on wat is good for you...as for me, wouldnt have given a second thought and at this time probably having a pint with my friends in soton.....again, i dont like usa, both as a place as well as in health care....not sure about you, but i find it ridiculous at times....very inefficient.....
i know lot many people in the forum will take grudges against the statement but thats their limited vision and i pity them.....
u decide wats your need and how much you liked UK...i have lot many..

darkhorse,
sorry for not agreeing.....true us is a land of opportunity but i feel racism a lot......my view is, at the end of the day u want a life and work is a tiny part of it...here work is your life...look at the hospitalist and attendings.........personally i would want to go back to my country after having proper tags from around the world.......
we can argue for and against but its an individuals choice n opinion.

i have been working now in the states now and i def feel more comfortable at work here....in uk there is always subtle tone of racism at all times and everyday and here u dont see it that often.....and with regards to workimg hrs of course u can cut down in the states and take a cut in ur pay especially if ur a hospitalist....andn the health systems are different but as a patient if it were to be my parent i think the care given in the states is def better but u def pay more...in uk especially over the weekends its mostly iv fluids, contiue ,repeat bloods on monday and social/ot/pt......days may go when a patient is not seen by annyone but a FY1 ....here in the states all patients are seen everyday by an attending and would feel more confident leaving my parents under their care but as many do know healthcare can get u bankrupt here.........

Is it possible to manage the interview season without actually being present in US? Any ideas on that? I am still in UK.
